Model Spotlight :: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW | John Rahn by Eric Chin

ISLAND brings to you the EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW on talent John Rahn by fitness and lifestyle photographer, Eric Chin [Juggernaut Photography]. After John's last release on ISLAND in featured works by NY-based photog Joe TickNow, WE thought it was imperative to seek John out, hear his thoughts and understand the man behind tattoos. At the end what we found was quite simply, the construct of an incredibly-amazing man.

Continue to interview after the jump>>

KAI Q: Who are you John Rahn, standing at 6'3 with blue eyes and a body like 'wow' from Upstate New York?
John A: Well I grew up in a small town where sports, education, and religion were way of life for my brother and I. I played everything from soccer to basketball and was an honor student throughout K-college and I ALWAYS SAY MY PRAYERS. I have two amazing and loving parents who have given me everything a man can ask for and than some; LOVE AND SUPPORT! I was blessed with an older brother who is my best friend. I was taught to always be respectful and work hard for what you want and have been doing that since I can remember. I am a very laid back guy who enjoys the simple things; hanging out with friends, chilling with my Dog (Moses) and relaxing. I work hard and just like to wind down whenever the opportunity comes. I have been told that I am a MAN'S MAN! (Grandpa Rahn.. RIP) My mother to this day says,
"Johnny, you can do anything you want... you are my son!"
I believe her.

KAI Q: Why modeling? Is it because you always thought of yourself as tremendously hot and should be photographed?
John A: HAHAHA-No! I have always had a tremendous amount of support from my mother, father, brother, loved ones, and friends who all thought that it was an avenue I should pursue. So I got involved at the age of 23  have been working on it for a couple of years now. I had the opportunity to attend IMTA (International Modeling Talent Association) Convention in 2007. I was a runway model and competed in the fitness division. I did well at the completion and came home with Male Fitness Model of the Year 1st runner up. Since then I have been molding myself both in body and in photography; correcting my weak spots. Due to my job, I've not been able to fully commit myself to the industry and as a result I never signed with an agent, in addition to waiting on the right set of eyes (to put it nicely). But I am still working on becoming a model, I've dedicated my life to health and fitness and have the goal of being on the cover of a fitness magazine [Men’s Health].
KAI Q: OK, so as a Federal Agent of course there are many classified areas about your job we can't discuss (thank you for being one of the many that keep us safe) but tell us, what do your colleagues think when they see your images? Is it an open topic in the cafeteria at the Department?
John A: Well my colleagues who have seen my images usually have some wise ass remark like..
"John, your looking a lil outta shape or bro whens the last time you ate a carb"
haha, I'm real lad back so I can joke about myself and my dieting/training habits. My colleagues actually bust on me for being on the TYRA BANKS show. I was a contestant on the show for a dating segment a while back. I was BOY TOY #3, competing to win a date with a "Sugar Momma." hahah! I WON! They don't give me too much flack. I practice what I preach, I eat healthy (carry my lunch box and gallon of water to work everyday) They respect my ambition and hard work I think.

KAI Q: What do you think is your best feature?
John A: My best feature... Hmmm! Well there have been instances where I meet people (usually women) and the first thing they say is you have amazing EYES. Its a great compliment but def makes it a little awkward. What am I supposed to say back? (thats what goes on in my head when I hear that compliment) I always say THANK YOU! I get the eyes from my mother.
KAI Q: What perpetuates your determination?
John A: I have no doubt in my mind that I can make it in the industry because my work ethic and faith pedals my determination. I live by the acronym P.U.S.H. (PRAY UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS). I even have it tattooed to my left wrist. It’s my constant reminder to Believe and have Faith. As you can see I have a lot of tattoos and they are very important to me. They are mainly about my FAMILY, FAITH, and SELF Motivators. I feel that if you have a dream and it's something you see day in and day out, then you will get what you want. I have a positive mindset and am just thankful for the blessings and loved ones in my life.

KAI Q: What excites you and what is a major turn off for you?
John A: I would have to say a challenge. I really believe that is why I am so addicted to being healthy. There is a constant challenge to bring your body to a new level everyday and I love pushing myself to the limits. It is amazing to be able to change the composition of your body and develop new muscle just through eating the right foods, training, and resting. I AM NEVER SATISFIED! I never see what other people see when I look in the mirror. I just see room for improvement. I'll probably never be satisfied and that in a way gets me going. KINDA SICK HUH?  And as a turn off for me as far as people in general is the person who has a cigarette hanging outta there mouth at 7am. HAVE A BAGEL MAN! I can't take that. As far as turn offs with females, RUDENESS... there's no need. You have to give respect to get it. I don't care if your the hottest (think your the hottest) girl in the world. If you don't respect me, I sure as sh*t am not giving you the time of day. I tried to be polite to everyone, just how I was raised.

KAI Q: And of course a classic. If you had superpowers, what would it be and why?
John A: Hmmm...Super power for me would be Mother Theresa's patience and kindness. That's super power!

Well again, thank you John for your time and charm. We welcome you here when ever you want :D Also a special thanks to Eric for the images. You are a fantastic photographer and we hope to spotlight you soon :) Any closing words John?
"Kai, I want to thank you for the opportunity to be feature on your blog. It is an honor. Thank you for the offer and especially your time. Special thanks to my friend, Eric Chin [Juggernaut Photography]. Eric gave me an amazing opportunity to travel to Colorado Springs to shoot with him for 4 days. We were at work every morning at 4am and shot throughout the days. It was just an incredible opportunity and I was so grateful for his time and effort. Eric is a talented photographer with awesome visions, ideas and an excellent port. I would shoot with him anytime I had the chance. THANKS ERIC." --John Rahn--
